Landmark Publication Launched

To mark the ten years of signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), Nepal Transition to Peace Institute (NTTP-I) organized a three-days International Peace Conference in Kathmandu on November 16-18, 2016.

The conference was inaugurated by Rt. Hon. President Bidya Devi Bhandari on November 16, 2017. On the same day, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the chief guest of the political session, launched the landmark publication entitled “Nepal Transition to Peace: A Decade of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (2006-2016)” which includes articles commissioned from national and international authors focusing on accomplishments, outstanding agenda items and issues, mechanisms and institutions and prospects of Nepal’s peace process. The publication is published in both English and Nepali languages.

The 3-days conference featured well-known keynote speakers including top national political leaders and internationals including former ambassadors, professors from reputable universities who were involved in Nepal’s peace process, and renowned peace experts.

The conference consisted of eight sessions. The inaugural session on November 16, 2016 was followed by political session. Four sessions were held on November 17, 2016 and two sessions were conducted on November 18, 2016. The closing session was addressed by former President Ram Baran Yadav on November 18, 2016.

Speakers and panelists spoke about the peace process, its successes and failures, on how to address the political issues that still pose challenge to the constitution and the country and the path ahead for a peaceful future of Nepal. Although the CPA was signed following the decade-long Maoist conflict, the conference saw discussions on wide-ranging issues including founding of the Nepali state and promulgation of constitution through the Constituent Assembly.
